Abstract From the geologic point of view, the area of study is occupied mostly by thick exposed sediments belonging to the Quaternary which consist of loose quartizitic gravels, sands, few clay and mud lenses. The sedimentary succession represents a part of the area east of the Nile Delta ranging in age from Quaternary to Tertiary and has a thickness more than 5000 meter surface and subsurface. The Holocene deposits are represented by the young aeolian deposits and recent aeolian sands. The Pleistocene deposits include the old deltaic deposits which are composed of coarse quartz sand and cherty flinty pebbles. These deposits increase in thickness northward and tend to be coarser with depth. |
