Abstract Experiments in which carrot root slices were incubated for 24 hours at 25°c in citrate, glucose, ammonium chloride and ADP either alone or in combination were conducted. Aged carrot root slices showed marked ability to absorb and utilize the above mentioned nutrient compounds from the respective media. It was apparent that supplemental addition of either glucose or NH4Cl to the acid media increased the assimilation of citric acid whereas inclusion of ADP to the acid media appreciably reduced the assimilation of citric acid. Inclusion of ADP in the glucose or ammonium chloride media markedly hastened the rate of uptake of glucose but not that of ammonia. |
