Abstract Soil samples are collected from salt marshes of the semi arid, arid and extreme arid belts of egypt with the aim of finding the infleunce of the different climatic conditions on the fungal population of the soil. The soils of these salt marshes have different salinity ranges. The soil reaction tends to be alkaline or highly alkaline. The organic carbon contents show little variation. Fourty nine species belonging to 28 genera were isolated in salt marshes of egypt. These comprise 25 genera (42 species) as mesophilic sugar fungi, 16 genera 21 species as mesophilic cellulose decomposer fungi and 4 genera (8 species as thermophilic sugar fungi). |
