Abstract

Hypertension is the fourth main cause of death worldwide and a major risk factor for cardiovascular disorders. Hypertension is a key risk factor for systemic diseases which can result in target organ damage. More specifically, increased blood pressure can cause a variety of adverse effects in the eye, finally leading to hypertensive retinopathy due to dysregulation of the retinal vasculature, optic neuropathy, and may cause hypertensive choroidopathy even in the absence of visible retinal alterations which may give explanation to impaired vision in hypertensive patients even without clinically visible retinal abnormalities which can be detected early be OCT-A. This study aimed to study retinal changes detected by optical coherence tomography angiography changes in hypertensive patients This study included 80 eyes. Hypertensive and control groups were recruited from the Tanta university Ophthalmology hospital and asked to participate in this study. This study was designed as a prospective cross-sectional controlled study in the period from 1/2023 to 12/2023.
