Abstract Glaucoma is a term used to describe a group of ocular disorders with multi- factorial etiology united by a clinically characteristic optic neuropathy with distinctive pattern of visual field loss. All forms are potentially progressive and can lead to blindness. Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness, accounting for 8% of blindness among the 39 million peo ple who are blind world-wide. In Africa, glaucoma accounts for 15% of blindness and it is the region with the highest prevalence of blindness compared to other regions world-wide. |
