Abstract Emergence delirium (ED) is defined in pediatric anesthesia as ‘a disturbance in a child’s awareness or attention to his/her environment with disorientation and perceptual alterations including hypersensitivity to stimuli and hyperactive motor behavior in the immediate post anesthesia period Any child who emerges after anesthesia and surgery in distress could be in pain. So, it is essential to ensure the adequacy of analgesia with examination and appropriate treatment. The incidence of ED has been reported to range from 2% to 80%. The most common consensus from the literature is an incidence of 10% to 30% of all children in the postanaesthesia care unit (PACU). |
