Abstract The aim of this work was to compare the results of open reduction and internal fixation in the treatment of displaced fractures of the middle third of the clavicle by plates at superior or anteroinferior position. The study included 20 patients suffering from displaced fractures of the middle third of the clavicle. The mean mean age in superior group was 31year range (18-50) year while the mean age of anterior group was 31.9 range (18-50) year. Males were commonly affected 6 male and 4 females were fixed superior 8 males and 2 females were fixed anterior.twelve patients had right side affection, while eight patients had left side affection . The mechanism of injury was road traffic accident in all patients. All patients were followed up for a period of six month and assessed both radiologically and clinically and scored according to DASH score. Results were assessed at the end of this period according to the items of Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) Score.there were two cases in group 1 showing minor disability Total score were 25and 12.5. the patients have problem but work with moderate residual symptoms.in group 2 there was another case with DASH score 25 and the patient patient has problem but work with moderate residual symptoms. All other cases showed Total score were 0 and the patients had no problem to work with minimal residual symptoms. Complications occurred were superficial wound infection in single case, singel case was nonunited, and single case of implant failure. |
