Abstract Background:Palliative care improves the quality of life of patients and that of their families who are facing challenges associated with life-threatening illness. This study aimed to Assess the effect of palliative care guidelines application for caregivers of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in Port Said City. Subjects and Method: Design:A quasi-experimental. Sample:a purposive sample. Setting: Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Port Said City.DatawerecollectedbyThis tool was consisted of three parts.Results: Before the palliative care guideline implementation, only 1.3% of caregivers had a good overall level of knowledge about cancer and palliative care; this increased to 40.6% after the guidelines. Conclusion: Caregivers demonstrated significant improvement in palliative care knowledge, attitudes, and reported practices in the post-test. Highly significant differences in overall scores pre- and post-intervention were noted. Recommendations:Designed palliative care guidelines to the specific needs and skills of caregivers for cancer patients. |
