Abstract This study was a randomized controlled trialconducted at Otolaryngology department, Assiut University from January 2022 to January 2024. The study evaluated the effect of montelukast as an add-on therapy to oral and intranasal steroids in treating patients with CRSwNP. The study involved 60 patients who were diagnosed to have CRSwNP and divided into two groups. The first group (treatment group) received montelukast for three months in addition to oral steroids and INCS. The control group received oral steroids and INCS only. The results of the study found that the treatment group showed significant improvement in many patient symptoms as nasal discharge, facial pain and sneezing over the control group. The improvement in nasal obstruction and smell disorders was more in the treatment group but without statistically significant difference between the both groups. Also, the treatment group showed more improvement in endoscopic evaluation of nasal polyps size, radiological changes assessment and quality of life score than the control group but the difference between the two groups was statistically insignificant. |
