Abstract ”Background: The natural transition from labour to postpartum can cause lifestyle changes which impact the mother’s physiological and psychological health. Breastfeeding mothers must maintain physical, psychological, social, and spiritual health to improve exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to assess of the lifestyle effect on breastfeeding. Study design: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was used. Setting: The study was carried out at Bani Ebeid Health Office and Pediatric Outpatient Clinic at Bani Ebeid Specialized Hospital. Study subjects: A purposive sample of 307 breastfeeding mothers. Tools: Two tools were used for data collection. Tool I: A structured Interview Questionnaire it consists of three parts (Socio-demographic data for the mothers - Reproductive history- Knowledge, attitude and practice regarding breast feeding ) Tool 2: Lifestyle Questionnaire with ten factors regarding physical, psychological ,social health, and prevention of accidents etc..).Results: ( 67.1% , 63.5%, and 53.7%) of the studied mothers had inappropriate lifestyle regarding physical , social health, and weight management respectively, (50.8%) of them had inappropriate lifestyle as a total domains score. More ever (86.8%) of the studied mothers who had appropriate lifestyle also reported had satisfactory practice regarding breastfeeding with highly statistical significant association ( p<0.001) Conclusion: Among all studied mothers, more than half of them had inappropriate lifestyle. Also the studied mothers who had appropriate lifestyle had satisfactory practice regarding breastfeeding Recommendations: A simple illustrative booklet that contains a healthy lifestyle should be provided to lactating mothers. Developing antenatal educational materials for families and friends about the importance of supporting mothers’ healthy lifestyle especially during the breastfeeding period. |
