Abstract Installing shunt reactors on high voltage long transmission lines is a standard solution to limit the over voltage caused by the Ferranti effect that occurs at light loading conditions. Such high voltages would establish stress on the equipment. It may cause damage and even destroy the equipment installed due to its effects on insulation. It is known that the transmission line capacitance depends on the line length and configuration of overhead line tower geometry. Therefore, the long transmission line at a light load would establish capacitive load conditions, at which the receiving end voltage may be higher than the sending end voltage due to high capacitive reactive power. |
