Abstract

Summary
Aim of this study:
This study aimed to assess biopsychosocial and educational needs of patients post COVID-19 through the following:
1. Assessing the physical needs of patients post COVID-19.
2. Assessing the psychological needs of patients post COVID-19.
3. Assessing the social needs of patients post COVID-19.
4. Assessing educational needs of patients post COVID-19.
Subjects and Methods:
Research design:
A descriptive exploratory design was used to conduct this study.
Research questions
The current study was answered the following questions.
1. What are the biopsychosocial needs of patients with postCOVID-19?
2. What are the educational needs of patients post with COVID-19?
Study design
A descriptive exploratory design was used to achieve the aim of the study.
Study setting
The study was conducted at the chest clinic of Qus Central Hospital, Qena Governorate, Egypt. The building a well-ventilated place, consisted of two floors; a ground floor and first floor. The ground floor contains three rooms: examination room contains three chairs, bed, desk, commode, and cupboard and tow windows. The second room is a laboratory and contain desk, computer, tow chairs, cupboard. The third room contains a bathroom and a sink for hand washing. There awaiting area for patients inside the building.
Subjects
Sample type: A purposive sample of 196 adult patients post COVID-19 infection according to certain inclusion criteria was recruited to this study.
Inclusion criteria
Adult patients from both gender with confirmed mild to moderate COVID-19 diagnosis; it was diagnosed by polymer chain reaction (PCR), computed tomography (CT) scan and blood tests. Patients with ongoing symptoms beyond four weeks from the onset of symptoms and persistent COVID-19 symptoms up to 12 weeks after hospital discharge, Patients who agreed to participate in the study.
Exclusion criteria
Patients with autoimmune diseases. Patients with psychiatric problem, and cognitive impairment.
Tools of data collection
Three tools were used in this study and classified as the following:
Tool I: Patient Structured Interview Questionnaire:
It was designed by the researcher and it included 2 parts as follows:
Part 1: Socio-demographic characteristics Data of the Patients
It aimed to assess patients’ age, gender, occupation, marital status, level of education, residence, number of family members, marital status living,there is an elevator responsible one of your family,Occupation and-Income.
Part 2: Medical Health Profile of the Patients
It was used to collect data about patient’s clinical picture, past medical history including duration, medical management and complications of the disease. Complain, and Complication of COVID19.
Tool II: Biopsychosocial Needs Assessment Questionnaire
It was used to assess physical and psychological needs;
Section 1:
Scoring system
<_ 50% Mild physical impairment
50-70% moderate impairment
>_70% sever impairment
Section 2:
Assessment of psychological needs; was adopted from Anxiety and Depression Scale adapted by Kroenke et al. (2009).
Section 3:
Assessment of social needs; this tool adapted from social dysfunction rating scale adapted from (Linn et al., 1969).

(0) Not Present‚ (1) Very Mild‚ (2) Mild‚ (3) Moderate‚ (4) Severe‚ (5) Very severe

Tool 3: Educational Needs Assessment Questionnaire
This tool developed by the researcher using pre /post in Arabic language based on reviewing the related literatures (CDC 2022), Marsh,. Et al,. (2021), WHO (2021). It will include a structured questionnaire to assess patients ’ level of knowledge regarding COVID-19 (Abdel hafiz et al., 2020).
Conclusion
 The provided data highlights various aspects related to the patients’ needs, offering valuable insights into their conditions and requirements.
 Physical Needs: The data provides a comprehensive overview of the patients’ physical needs, considering their age, gender, education, marital status, living conditions, and chronic health conditions. It is evident that fatigue is a prevalent symptom, and other symptoms like shortness of breath, loss of taste/smell, and difficulty swallowing are also reported in general more than three quarters had mild to moderate physical impairment. Understanding these physical symptoms is essential in tailoring treatments and support to help patients recover.
 Psychological Needs: The assessment of psychological needs indicates that anxiety and trouble concentrating are common among patients post COVID-19. The presence of more than three quarters had mild to moderate psychological impairment and concerns related to health and well-being highlights the importance of addressing mental health issues during the recovery process.
 Social Needs: The data reveals that more than three quarters of patients experience emotional withdrawal and mild to moderate social dysfunction. These findings underscore the significance of providing social support and improving interpersonal relationships to aid in the patients’ overall recovery and well-being.
 Educational Needs: Understanding patients’ knowledge about COVID-19 is crucial in ensuring proper management and prevention of complication post COVID-19. The data shows that while some patients have good knowledge regarding complications and symptoms of COVID-19, more than half of study subjects had poor knowledge Post COVID-19. Addressing these knowledge gaps can contribute to better patient outcomes and disease management.
Recommendations
In the light of the findings of the current study the following recommendations are suggested:-
- The patients need to health program about manage anxiety and depression.
- Educational program for patient about disease and its treatment modalities, how to deal with complications post COVID19.
- Health education about importance social support for patients post covid 19.
- Developing a simplified illustrated and comprehensive Arab booklet to be available for all patients including latest information about biopsychosocial and educational needs of patients post COVID19.
- Conduct educational programs and workshops about the preventive health behavior about COVID-19.
- Further research and interventions based on this data can have a positive impact on the overall well-being of patients dealing with the aftermath of COVID-19.
