Abstract This study investigated using of Humor texts based program to develop Faculty of Education first year English majors’ reading comprehension and cultural knowledge . In order to achieve the aim of the study the researcher adopted the quasi-experimental design. Sixty students were randomly divided into two intact groups , an experimental group and a control one. The experimental group was taught using the Humor texts program while the control one received regular instruction. The instruments of the study included a Reading comprehension test, a Cultural Knowledge test. After implementing the program , post-testing was undertaken and the data obtained were analyzed using t-test . The effect size was also calculated using Eta squared . The results revealed that the experimental group significantly surpassed the control one in the post-performance of both tests . It was concluded that using Humor texts was effective in improving first year English majors’ Reading Comprehension and Cultural Knowledge skills. |
