Abstract

This study was suggested to investigate the effects of different organic sources, and inoculation with different sources of bio-fertilizer as well as their interaction effects on vegetative growth, yield and its compontes, and chemical constituents of pumpkin.
The experiments were conducted at Experimental Station Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University; at Abies, Egypt.
Two field experiments were conducted during the summer seasons of 2018 and 2019, to study the physiological response of growth, fruit yield and quality of pumpkin to different sources of organic manure and bio-fertilizer. The experimental treatments were arranged in a split-plots system in Randomized Complete Block Design of twelve combination treatments replicated three times, in the two growing seasons.
Each experiment were carried out during the summer seasons to explore the effect of four organic fertilizer treatments; plant compost, animal compost, mixed compost between them at the rate of (1:1), control (without organic fertilizer) and three biofertilizer treatments; uninoculated (control) and inoculated with Nitrobin and Halex-2. The obtained results could be summarized as follows:
- Vegetative Growth characters.
1. Pumpkin plants that applied with mixed compost (plant and animal) at the rate of (1:1) as source of organic fertilizer achieved the highest means values of plant length, number of leaves plant-1, number of branches plant-1 and plant fresh weight, in both growing seasons.
2. Inoculation pumpkin seeds with different bio-fertilizer sources Halex-2 or Nitrobin increased significantly the vegetative growth characters; plant length, number of leaves plant-1, number of branches, plant fresh weighted plants compared to uninoculated plants , in the two growing seasons.
3. The interaction effects between organic fertilizer sources and bio fertilizer sources, pointed out generally that the mixed compost (plant and animal 1:1) combined with Halex-2 bio fertilizer was the most source that resulted well for the vegetative growth characters, during both growing seasons.
- Flowering Traits
1. Pumpkin plants that fertilized with mixed compost between (plant and animal) at the rate of (1:1) as a source of organic manure organic fertilizer achieved the highest means values of number of female flowe r and sex ratio, in both growing seasons.
2. Inoculation pumpkin seeds with the biofertilizer Halex-2 or Nitrobin as a bio-fertilizer sources increased significantly the flowering characters of pumpkin plants, in the two growing seasons.
3. The interaction effects between organic fertilizer sources and bio fertilizer sources, pointed out generally that the plants which applied with any compost source (planted, animal and mixed 1:1) combined with the inoculation of Halex-2 or Nitrobin resulted in increasing the flowering characters.
- Yield and Yield Components characters
1. The obtained results showed that application of organic fertilizer (mix compost 1:1) was associated with a corresponding and significant increments in the total yield plant-1, total yield fed-1, fruit weight, fruit diameter, fruit length and number of fruit plant-1 of pumpkin plants.
2. Used Halex-2 as a bio fertilizer caused significant increases on the total yield fed-1, fruit weight, fruit diameter and number of fruit plant-1 of pumpkin plants compared with Ntrobin bio fertilizer or uninoculated plants, in both seasons.
3. Plants treated by the combined application of the mixed compost (plant and animal 1:1) as a source of organic manure with the Halex-2 or Nitrobin, significantly, increased most pumpkin yield and its characteristics, in both growing seasons.
4. The results indicated that the mix compost between (plant and animal; 1:1) gave the highest mean value of fruit weight , fruit length and number of fruit plant-1; in the first and second seasons. The obtained results illustrated, also, that the animal and plant compost as different organic sources recorded the highest significant mean value on the number of fruit plant-1 compared with those of control treatment without any application of organic sources (control); in the both growing seasons.
5. The results showed that all treatments of bio-fertilizer significantly improved ,fruit weight ,fruit diameter and fruit length compared with the control treatment, in both seasons. Since, all bio-fertilizers sources treatments gave, approximately, similar mean values of the previous mentioned flowering traits, which did not reflect any differences from each other, but they differed significantly, compared with that of the control.
6. The interaction effects between the organic and bio-fertilizer sources on fruit traits revealed that using the mix compost (1:1) combined with either Halex-2 or Nitrobin gave the highest mean values of fruit diameter character, in the both growing seasons.
7. The results demonstrated that high significant increments on total yield plant -1 were obtained as result of using mix compost plant and animal (1:1) compared to the other organic fertilizer sources as well as control plants (without organic fertilizer), in the both seasons.
8. Results illustrated that. that using Halex-2 as bio-fertilizer source produced the highest significant total yield plant-1 as compared to other treatments in the second season. However, in the first season the highest total yield plant-1 attained from the plants which received Helax-2 followed by Nitrobin but the difference did not reach the level of significance. Data showed also that there was insignificant difference between Nitrobin and control plants (without bio-fertilizer source) on this studied character, in the second growing seasons.
9. Regarding the effects of organic fertilizer sources coupled with different bio-fertilizer sources, the results illustrated that the mix compost (1:1) combined with the application of different bio-fertilizer sources (Halex-2and Nitrobin), generally ,produced the highest mean value of total yield plant-1, relative to that of the control; in both growing season.
10. The results indicated that the mix compost (1:1) plant and animal source gave the highest mean value of total yield fed-1, followed by the animal compost and plant compost, in both growing seasons. The results showed also that the differences among the three different organic sources were significant, compare with the control (without organic source), in the first and second seasons.
11. The results showed clearly that the use of various different bio-fertilizer sources had significant increase on total yield fed-1 comparing with the control. However, Halex-2 bio-fertilizer gave more development for this studied trait than the other treatments; in the first and second seasons.
12. Concerning to the interaction effects between the organic fertilizer and bio-fertilizer sources, the results generally, illustrated that use of mix compost (1:1) as an organic source combined with Halex-2 bio-fertilizer, significantly increased total yield fed.-1, compared with the other combination treatments, in both seasons.
- Chemical Constituents characters
1. The results illustrated that the treatment combination of mixed compost (plant and animal 1:1) combined with two sources of biofertilizer (Halex-2 and Nitrobin) gave the highest chemical constituents of leaves and fruits ,in both growing seasons.
2. The addition of (Halex-2 and Nitrobin) as a bio-fertilizer sources gave the highest contents of leaf chlorophyll and N, P and K in the leaves and fruits as well as T.S.S, carotenoids and total sugar of fruits, in both seasons.
3. With respect to the interaction effects between organic fertilizer sources and different bio-fertilizer sources, used mix compost (1:1) fertilizer organic source with Halex-2 bio-fertilizer source significantly increased the chemical constituents characters, in the both growing seasons.
CONCLUSION
from obtained data in this study, It can be recommended that the (plant and animal compost 1:1) as a source of organic fertilization and use of Halex-2 or Nitrobin as a source of biofertilization led to enhance vegetative growth characters , yield and its components , chemical constituents of pumpkin plants and reduce the environment pollution and production costs under the same conditions of these experiments.
