Abstract The aim of the study was to assess the right and left ventricular functions in patients with type I diabetes mellitus using strain imaging by speckle tracking. To answer these questions we did prospective, case-controlled study between 60 Patients with type I diabetes mellitus served as cases in comparison to 30 healthy subjects served as control. So our study consists of comparing the groups in history, labs, conventional echocardiography, tissue Doppler image and multilayered speckle tracking of both ventricles. In the study we found, regarding glycaemic control, HBA1C and FBS level were statistically higher in diabetic group than in control group. Left Ventricular Diastolic and Systolic Dimension and volume were lower in patients than controls. On the other side, left ventricular septal and posterior wall diameter in diastole were higher in patients than controls. Also, our study revealed that asymptomatic subjects with DM1 demonstrate significant diastolic dysfunction and proportional reduction of LV longitudinal systolic strain across the endocardium and myocardium, despite preserved ejection fraction. On the other side DM1 had not effect in either RV TAPSE or RV longitudinal systolic strain. |
