Abstract This prospective cross sectional study showed that the normal cut off point of TRECs level among full-term newborns was 260 TRECs copies/µL blood with sensitivity 70.83 and specificity 72.73 but, there is no defined cut off point of TRECs level in preterm newborns at birth so it must be retested again when the newborn reaches the week 37 of corrected gestational age if SCID is suspected. Additionally, the current study showed that prematurity, maternal illness and low birth weight may be risk factors to decrease the TRECs level. |
