Abstract

Compounds containing chromium have been classified as highly hazardous and possibly carcinogenic pollutants. Advanced and economical methods for removing chromium from wastewater are becoming increasingly crucial because of the environmental regulations. Reduction of Cr(VI) using iron powder is a significant water treatment method that has been extensively utilised to remove heavy metals. It is also a highly effective method in comparison to other processes because it can break down pollutants and is inexpensive and can be obtained using simple ways. The effectiveness of an innovative revolving fixed bed batch device, that uses iron powder, in the treatment of synthetic solutions that contain Cr(VI) ions was investigated. A novel mixer that consists of two magnets was enclosed by iron powder and joined by an insulated rod of stainless steel. Because the iron’s particle size is so small, thus has high surface area, a high rate of Cr(VI) removal can be achieved in a short period of time, reducing both operating costs and power consumption. The optimal conditions for removing Cr(VI) ions were observed to be 21 min contact time, 10 g of dosage of iron powder, 30 mg/l initial concentration of Cr(VI), 276 rotational speed and. ANOVA of the experimental results and kinetics of the reduction reaction were also studied.
