Abstract

Type-II diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia due to insulin resistance (IR) and usually relative (rather than absolute) insulin deficiency. Long term hyperglycemia is responsible for affecting the structure and functions of blood vasculature and tissues, which gives rise to vascular complications. There have been ongoing efforts to identify a candidate involved in the pathophysiology of vascular complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Assessment of novel biomarkers such as fetuin-A with other metabolic markers in diabetic patients with complications can help to understand their position within the pathophysiology of the vascular disease. This cross-sectional study aimed at evaluating Serum level of Fetuin-A as a biomarker for vascular complications and severity of insulin resistance in Individuals with type 2 diabetes.
