Abstract
In normal subjects, GR α is downregulated in nasal mucosa following 4 weeks of intranasal GC treatment.
In AR patients, variable pattern of GR α expression was detected in nasal mucosa following 4 weeks of intranasal GC treatment, though insignificant from that of the control subjects.
Variable clinical response was detected following intranasal GC treatment in AR patients, where 40% of AR patients showed total improvement while 60% had some residual symptoms.
No significant difference was detected between AR patients who were totally improved and those who had residual symptoms regarding the change in GRα expression following treatment. Among patients with total improvement, GRα expression was downregulated in 50% of patients and in the remaining 50% of patients, the GRα level was nearly not changed following treatment. Among those who had residual symptoms, GRα expression was decreased in 50%, increased in 16.7%, while 33.3% showed nearly no change in GRα level following treatment.
