Abstract Coronavirus Disease-2019 (COVID-19) is considered as an acute infectious disease mainly involving the respiratory system, which was recently found in humans. The diagnosis depends on reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) or gene sequencing of sputum, throat swab or lower respiratory tract secretion. However, these methods are time-consuming and do not allow assessing the disease severity and may give false negative results. Imaging plays an important role in the diagnosis and management of Covid-19 pneumonia .CT is considered the first line imaging modality in highly suspected patients. CT has been identified as an efficient clinical diagnostic tool for patients with suspected COVID 19. The present study was conducted to identify the role of CT chest findings and chest radiography in the diagnosis, severity and prognosis of the disease. Mean age of the study patients was 40.48±17.99 years. 51.4% of them were males and 48.6% were females .The mean O2 saturation of the study patients was 92.27±9.45%. 82.9% of the patients needed assisted ventilation of which 95.2% were intubated . Review of the chest X-ray of the study subjects revealed that 21.9% of the study patients had positive chest X-ray findings and 78.1% had negative findings .Those chest x-ray findings were unilateral in 13.0% and bilateral in 87.0% of the 23 positive patients. |
