Abstract

Plant quarantine in ports and airports plays an important role in protecting the environment within the boundaries of the nation by preventing the entry of unregistered exotic pests into the home environment, as well as plant and harmful seeds, plant quarantine in ports and airports plays an important role in protecting the environment within the country’s boundaries. Implementation of this focuses on the quarantine staff and the degree to which the quarantine rules are applied. The present work has been devoted to study the following: Survey of insect species associated with imported grain vessels.Visual inspection of wheat and yellow corn imported from different origins in the Dekheila port, Alexandria. Quality analysis of two imported grains, wheat and corn.
1. Survey of Insect Species Associated with Imported Grain Vessels:Ten vessels of milling wheat imported from three different countries (Russia -Ukraine and the United States of America) were examined, as well as 10 vessels of yellow corn imported from Argentina, Brazil and Ukraine.A. Milling Wheat Vessels:Ten vessels of milling wheat imported from three different countries, Ukraine, Russia and United Stat were examined. Three vessels from Ukraine, five vessels from Russia and two vessels from United States. i. Ukrainian Milling Wheat: As for Ukrainian wheat, the results showed that seven species of dead insects were collected and recorded. No live insects were recorded.  These dead insect species are as follows: Sunn pest or Wheat bug, Eurygaster spp.; two weevils; lesser grain borer; Cadelle, Tenebroides mauritanicus, Saw Toothed Beetle, Oryzaephilus surinamensis; Booklice, Liposcelis sp. and some unknown insects.ii. Russian Milling Wheat: As for Russian milling wheat, the results showed that seven species of dead insects were collected and recorded. No live insects were recorded. These dead insects are as follows: Sunn pest or Wheat bug, Eurygaster integriceps; two weevils; R. dominica; two Flour Beetles; Booklice, Liposcelis sp. and some unknown insects. Sunn pest was recorded in all the vessels, where it was at a rate of 2-5 insects/kg.iii. United Stat Milling Hard Wheat:As for United Stat milling hard wheat, the results showed that five species of dead insects were collected and recorded. No live insects were recorded. Sunn pest or Wheat bug, Eurygaster integriceps was not recorded in all the vessels.iv. Comparison Between the Imported Wheat Vessels According to the Rae of Insect Infestation: Data indicated that nine dead insects were collected from 10 milling wheat vessels. In addition to some dead insects that were not identified. All recorded dead insects.
