Abstract This current study was conducted on 170 pregnant women in 3rd trimester during the period from 1st Mar. 2021 to 31th Aug. 2022 (1.5 years). They were divided into two equal groups; group 1 (Cases): included 85 pregnant women with COVID-19 (27 of them were admitted during delta wave and 58 others were admitted during other COVID-19 waves) and group 2 (control group): included 85 age matched healthy pregnant women. COVID-19 cases were enrolled from Obstetrics and gynecology departments in El-Bagour General Hospital and Shebin El-kom teaching hospital, Menoufia Governorate, Egypt, while control group was enrolled from Obstetrics and gynecology department in Menoufia university hospital, Menoufia Governorate, Egypt. All pregnant women were followed up since their hospital admission till their time of delivery and discharge from hospital. Their neonates were followed up since their time of birth till their discharge from hospital. Data of mothers and their neonates were collected and analyzed to assess risk of COVID-19 on pregnant women and pregnancy outcomes. Primary outcome was estimation of adverse pregnancy outcomes in pregnant females with COVID-19 (maternal outcome) and identifying predictors of maternal complications and mortality associated with COVID-19 infection in pregnant females, through collection of the following data: Mode of delivery, premature rupture of membrane (PROM), need for blood transfusion, admission to intensive care unit (ICU admission), need for mechanical ventilation (invasive or non-invasive MV), occurrence of venous thrombosis, maternal complications and final maternal outcome (complete cure& discharge, improvement& home isolation, referral, discharge on demand or maternal death). Secondary outcome was assessment of neonatal outcome in pregnant females with COVID-19 through collection of the following data: birth weight (gm), time of birth, presence of congenital anomalies, Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for neonates to exclude COVID-19 transmission from mother to fetus, admission to neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), neonatal complications and final neonatal outcome (improvement& discharge, referral, or death (which might be IUFD or death after delivery)). |
