Abstract Research on Green building, sustainability objectives and rating systems became an international trend. However Policies, standards and research efforts are, in general, more focused on sustainability practices for newly constructed buildings, with less attention towards existing buildings stock. ” Water efficiency ” one of the main rating categories in all rating systems used in building assessment, moreover in Egypt it weights the highest percentage in ‘green pyramid rating systems ‘. In this research, green pyramids, Tarsheed and another four international rating systems compared to establish a list of 15 main factors affect water efficiency which categorized into 6 groups, then using a multiple criteria decision-making technique, namely the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), for developing the weights for each criterion. Each theme was assigned a percentage based on its relative importance, according to the questionnaire responses. The six categories were ranked as follows: • Water Conservation Practices ranked highest with a percentage of 28.4%. • Management and Operation followed with a percentage of 19.2%. • Irrigation and Landscaping obtained a percentage of 18.4%. • Stormwater Management was assigned a percentage of 15.0%. • Water Reuse and Recycling received a percentage of 10%. • Lastly, Water Consumption monitoring had a percentage of 9%. This assessment can be easily applied by using an application which is designed by MATLAB technique to give the score or weight of water efficiency in building depending on achieving the main categories and sub-categories or not. In addition, the application provides recommendations to be adopted in the building and which water practice needs the most to be reinforced. |
