Abstract This thesis is entitled “Compromising of Programmable Nuclear Instrument Modules in Radiation Detection Systems” that presents an integrated study of the different radiation detectors and how they work, with a practical model for the plastic scintillation detector that can use to measure both gamma rays and fast neutrons. This model has been distinguished from other neutron detectors in that it can detect fast neutrons without slowing them down, as is usual in previous neutron detectors. In this thesis, we manufacture a plastic scintillation detector to detect radioactive packages at transit stations and checkpoints quickly together, whether they are gamma radiation or neutrons. The research plan consists of four chapters: Chapter One with a titled (Introduction and Literature Review) This chapter consists of two sections, the first: (Introduction and Aim of The Work), and the second is: (Literature Review). Chapter two is named: (Theoretical Aspects) It includes five topics, first: (Nuclear Radiation), the second is: (Interaction of γ-Rays with Matter), the third is: (Types of radiation Detectors), the fourth is: (Neutron classifications), and the fifth is: (Gamma-ray spectroscopy). While the third chapter came under the title: (Experimental Work) is divided into seven sections: (Plastic scintillator), (Detector construction), (Detector operation), (Circuit description of Cosmic Watch detector), (Data Acquisition), (Plastic scintillator for gamma detection &dosimetry) and (Plastic scintillator for neutron detection). The research ended with chapter four, which presented the results and conclusions. |
