Abstract Date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) is an essential agricultural crop in most Middle Eastern countries, and its fruit, known as dates, is consumed by millions of people. Date seeds, a by-product of the date fruit processing industry, are a waste product used as food for domestic farm animals. Date seeds contain abundant sources of carbohydrates, oil, dietary fiber, and protein; they also contain bioactive phenolic compounds that may possess potential biological properties . Human breast (MCF-7) and hepatic (HepG-2) cancer cell lines were used for in vitro anticancer assessments; in addition, ehrlich ascetic carcinoma (EAC) mouse model was used for evaluating the antitumor efficacy in vivo. This study was carried out to evaluate the antioxidant and anticancer activities of some fruits seeds extract such as Zaghloul date seeds, Samani date seeds, El-Barhi date seeds, Hayani date seeds, Sukkary date seeds. Qualitative analysis, total phenolic, flavonoids, saponin and anthocyanin were determined. Quantitative analysis, total antioxidants capacity (TAC) of extracts, DPPH scavenging activity of extracts, saponin content were also determined. Gas chromatograph–mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis was carried out. Nutritional values of different date seed extracts were determined Fruits were purchased from a local market in Tanta city, Egypt. Different seeds were extracted, dried, crushed and then kept for further studies. Different ethanolic date seeds extracts were prepared . Evaluation in vitro cytotoxic effects by human cell lines (MCF-7 and HepG-2) and cytotoxicity assessment by MTT assay, ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC) cells were used. |
