Abstract

Alkaloids are a category of compounds synthesized by plants and featured by the fact that the majority of them have tremendous effects on the physiology of animals.[1]The family name “alkaloids” literally means “alkali-like”.[2]
I.1. Structure of alkaloids
Alkaloids are a class of naturally occurring low molecular weight organic compounds. Along with carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen that constitutes the main structure of alkaloids, there might be oxygen, sulfur and more rarely other elements such as chlorine, bromine and phosphorous in the main structure of some alkaloids.[1].
