Abstract

The architecture, engineering, and construction industry in Egypt is remarkably adopting cloud-based BIM technology at a fast pace, Shifting from traditional BIM software framework. Thru storing BIM data on the cloud, stakeholders have access to the most recent versions of their models and documents and may collaborate using a common data platform. Although several obstacles hinder the broad use of this technology in Egypt, stakeholders still have identified a variety of significant advantages to using it. Adopting Cloud BIM applications provides many benefits, including real-time information sharing, higher stakeholder involvement, efficient communication, and time/cost/risk reduction. However, high implementation costs, lack of awareness among stakeholders, lack of trust in data security and privacy, fear of change, lack of regulations for BIM adoption in Egypt and more elements were noted as major challenges facing its adoption in the industry.
The main aim of the study is to investigate the current implementation of cloud-based BIM applications in stakeholders’ communication during the construction process, in addition to proposing an action plan to enhance the adoption of this technology in the AEC industry in Egypt. To achieve the research objectives the researcher carried out a theoretical study, also developed survey tools to assess the current application of cloud base BIM in the AEC industry in Egypt Furthermore, the study identified benefits and barriers and analysed national and international projects examples for a better understanding. Finally, the finding prompts the development of an integrated action plan.
