Abstract This study aims at highlighting the mystical transformation of the human soul. It addresses the mystical journey in Elif Shafak’s The Forty Rules of Love, Paulo Coelho’s The Alchemist and James Redfield’s The Celestine Prophecy. The three novelists draw the path that mystics follow passing through stages of suffering, purgation, enlightenment and wisdom. The destination of this journey is marked by love as it connects the individual to Divine Love which is the vibrant energy that flows in all existence. The real core of the mystical journey is self- discovery where the individual experiences many feelings of suffering, loss, urge of searching for identity and confusion. All these feelings refer to the dark night of the soul which is responsible for the conscious upgrade and the spiritual awakening. With seeking to discover the mysteries of the self, some deep questions rise, such as who am I ? why am I here? and what is the purpose of life? The path of answering these questions is the essence of the mystical growth, enlightenment and wisdom. The three novelists seek to find one’s destiny throughout one’s mystical quest. |
