المستخلص

Background: after total knee replacement , the patients who had cold compression for three days showed improved range of motion at discharge and three weeks later. Additionally, the treatment group’s mean hospital stay was shorter than the control group’s. Other research indicate that cryotherapy reduces pain, improves range of motion, or reduces blood loss. Making the pain manageable has consequently been a priority in healthcare settings because discomfort is unavoidable after total knee replacement surgery. Controlling discomfort following knee surgery, according to studies, is a key factor in ensuring a speedy recovery . The primary responsibilities of nurses in pain management include understanding how to assess pain through suitable planning and carrying out the necessary treatments. Aim of this study was to evaluate effect of performance cold compresses on reducing post operative pain among patients with total knee replacement. Research deign Quasi experimental research design (study and control groups) was used in this study. Sitting of the study: The study was conducted in orthopedic department at Luxor International Hospital Study sample A purposively sample of 60 Adult patients according to the determination of the sample size based upon those who had post knee replacement surgery was assigned in the current study, they classified equally into two equal groups ( n= 30) for a control group and (n= 30) for study group:. Study duration: Data collection for this study was carried out through nine months from January to the end of August 2021. Tools of data collection First tool Scio demographic and medical data include four parts , Part (A):assess patients socio- demographic data Part(B): assess patients medical data Part(C): patient observational checklist: Part (D): knee rang of motion (ROM) checklist ; second tool :Numerical Rating scale (NRS) second tool. Result shows a highly statistical significant reduction regarding level of pain between the two groups at 2nd, 3rd days and first week postoperative. Conclusion The performance of cold compresses reduce post operative pain among patient with total knee replacement, activity of daily living was improved after cold therapy and improvement in range of motion and walking. Recommendation: a Continues an educational and training program planned and offered on regular basis to patients under going to total knee replacement.
