Abstract Schizophrenia is considered one of the mysteries of modern psychiatry, its etiology can{u2019}t be fully identified, it can be due either genetic or environmental factors or due to combination of both, People with schizophrenia suffer from a number of symptoms which can be either positive symptoms (severe hallucinations, severe delusions) or negative symptoms (Loss of function, anhedonia, impaired awareness, social withdrawal), which could finally lead to deleterious effects on the society. Hence, the treatment of schizophrenia has attracted a great deal of pharmaceutical interest, especially to formulate antipsychotic drugs in oral formulations that is most favorable by the psychotic patients as it improves their compliance especially that long term follow-up is needed. Amisulpride (AMS) is a substituted benzamide that belongs to the class of atypical antipsychotic drugs. It is effective in improvement of both positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia; it shows an evident supremacy to conventional antipsychotic compounds in improvement of negative symptoms. It is also used at low doses for treatment of dysthymia (a state of chronic depression). |
