Abstract Female pattern hair loss has been defined as nonscarring progressive miniaturization of the hair follicle, usually with characteris-tic pattern distribution that occurs in genetically predis»posed women. Topical minoxidil 2% and 5% solution or foam is the currently approved FDA treatment for FPHL. Mesotherapy is a novel treatment for hair fall and its efficacy in FPHL has not been evaluated UBM is a versatile, painless, low-risk and non-invasive procedure that can easily be performed and repeated which provides real-time visual information about benign and malignant processes in the skin and subcutis. In the present work, thirty patients with FPHL were enrolled in the study. The patients were classified into 2 groups: group 1 included 15 patients who applied topical minoxdil 5 % twice daily; group 2 included 15 patients who were injected with mesotherapy (multivitamins). For both groups ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) wasdone before and 12 weeks after treatment. Analysis of data from 15 cases of group (1) who put topical minoxdil showed no significant difference between UBM imaging as regards number of hair follicles nor diameter of largest hair follicle in the examined area, on the other side 15 patients of group (2) who took mesotherapy showed a significant difference between UBM imaging as regards number of hair follicles but no significant differences as regards the diameter of largest hair follicle in the examined area |
