Abstract Diabetes has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. Several comorbid conditions are related to and accompany DM, including coronary heart disease, dyslipidemia, hypertension, obesity, arthritis, stroke and visual impairments. Obesity is a major susceptibility factor leading to the development of various conditions of the metabolic syndrome. Exenatide (EX) is a great option for type 2 diabetes, not only through sensitizing beta-cells to plasma glucose and release insulin from the Ý cells but also suppressing glucagon production which prevents the liver from overproduction of sugar when it is not needed. In this way, hepatic glucose production and subsequent increased insulin requirement are reduced. We also attempted to assess its beneficial role on reduction of body weight and elevated systolic blood pressure |
