Abstract The prevalence of sexual dysfunction (SD), including mild, moderate, and severe dysfunction is estimated as high as 50% in both men and women and increases with age Medications may affect one sexual cycle phase more than others but typically the phases are interdependent and generally patients complain of side effects across phases. All three major neurotransmitters, dopamine, serotonin, noradrenaline, affect sexual function. Agents that affect dopamine and serotonin are more commonly implicated in SD. Prevalence of psychotropic-related SD is highly variable and unreliable as many studies do not differentiate from SD caused by the underlying illness; also many are based on self-reported SD, which is likely lower. Sexual dysfunction is reported anywhere from 20 to 80% across studies, it is likely in the 30–50% range. It may be slightly more prevalent in men than women(70). In this study, the aim of the study is to investigate the association between the dosage and serum blood concentration of the different Psychopharmacological medications and their related sexual dysfunctions among the patients suffering from Affective Disorders. To add, the aim tried to demonstrate differences in class specific prevalence of sexual side effects and its variability between different psychopharmacological drugs. Eventually, the study tried to evaluate adding integrative model of psychosexual therapy to naturalistic modalities of therapy for management of residual SD persisting after depression among the patients suffering from Affective Disorders. After obtaining the approval from the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Medicine, Alexandria University, and taking a written informed consent from patients suffering from a depressive episode of any affective disorder in the period from the Beginning of September 2019 to the end of July 2020. They were admitted as inpatients to the Department of Psychiatry, Psychosomatics and Psychotherapy of the University Hospital of Würzburg, Germany. |
