Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of digital impression versus conventional impression in terms of trueness and precision with distally inclined implants using extra oral and intra-oral scanners.
Methodology: Stone cast model of an edentulous maxilla installed with six implants which fabricated to serve as reference cast (control group). Two implants were installed in the central incisor area bilaterally, and in the canine area bilaterally and in second premolar area bilaterally with an angle of 45 degree by using surgical guide. The reference model were scanned using 6 peek scan bodies(Implant direct LLC, USA) with extra oral scanner one time using (Medit T310 lab scanner) and then data will be saved for comparison ( control group).
They were 2 intervention groups.
The reference cast were scanned using intraoral scanner (Medit i 700 korea) five times and then superimposed to the scans of the reference model ( group 1) Then the scan bodies were removed from the reference model, and the open tray impression copings were screwed to each of the six implants. Five open tray impressions using addition silicon impression were carried out for the reference cast and poured to obtain five duplicate models with their corresponding analogues. Each cast will be scan once using extra oral scanner then were superimposed to the scans of the reference model (group 2)
Results: There was statistical significance difference in precision between the two groups the results showed that conventional impression (0.1605 ± 0.11) mm was significantly higher than intraoral impression (0.1062 ± 0.074) mm as P value < 0.05 (0.001). While there was no statistical significance difference in trueness between the two groups (excellent trueness)
Conclusions: Digital impression has shown higher accuracy levels than conventional open tray impression. There was statistical significance difference between the two groups, the results showed higher deviation in conventional open tray impression compared to digital impression while there was no statistical significance difference in trueness between the two groups.
