Abstract

to determine the short term and medium-term outcomes of conventional surgical closure of VSD during their follow up that will be done after 1 month, 6 months and 12 months after surgery.
Method: A retrospective cohort was conducted enrolling 115 patients according to inclusion and exclusion criteria who were admitted to postoperative pediatric cardiac intensive care unit of Cairo University Specialized Pediatric Hospital following conventionalsurgical ventricular septal defect repair during the period from 2017 to 2019.
Results: 85.2% of our patients had survived after surgery and spontaneous closure of residual VSD occurred in 55% of those who were left with residual VSD.
Conclusions: Surgical repair of VSD is one of the most successful surgical interventions with declining incidence of residual shunt during 12-month follow-up.
