Abstract Enormous heritage buildings are characterized by their value and significance. However, several of them suffer from deterioration and need an action plan to conserve. In addition, almost all the conservation projects do not include any green initiatives to make the building compatible with the environment and achieve sustainability. Achieving a sustainable conservation concept of heritage buildings in Egypt requires a strategy to encourage the integration between values and energy efficiency using Building Information Modeling technology (BIM).To achieve this strategy various steps are followed: First, a theoretical analysis based on previous literature on the architectural legacy. However, limited studies have been conducted to investigate the sustainable conservation hierarchy. This thesis presents a hierarchical-based sustainability approach that refers to the proposed framework; Targets, Tools, Tasks (3Ts) green conservation framework in light of the possible integration of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) requirements and green conservation of cultural structures. Three acronyms, including ”Targets for green retrofitting,” ”Tools for building information modeling,” and ”Tasks through stakeholder involvement,” have been proposed. Second, an analytical study is based on globally related case studies that emphasize the promotion of green retrofitting for heritage buildings, H-BIM implementation, and Geen-BIM implementation. Developing a SWOT analysis of the framework’s components and reach matrix to discuss practical insights on formulating strategic duties and responsibilities. Third, an applied study is based on how stakeholders perceive their input and decision-making in the process, measuring the climate parameters in the study case area, several green retrofits were proposed, and the analyzing results reveal that wall insulation is the highest energy-saving retrofit. Then these retrofits were integrated into green scenarios. The simulation results of these proposed green scenarios applied to the case study indicated that the total energy savings could reach by approximately 12.0% - 73.5%, and nearly 9.6% - 72.8% carbon emissions reduction, without affecting heritage values. |
