Abstract SeveralAmaranthusspecies (Amaranthaceae) have gained recognition as valuable nutraceuticals, with health-promoting characteristics. In this work, three Amaranthus species, namely A. blitumL, A. hybridusL,and A. caudatusL, were chemically characterized using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) technique and chemometric tools. In addition, various chromatographic techniques,NMR spectroscopy, and HR-ESI-MS analyses were used for isolation and identification of some phytoconstituents from A. blitumL. Moreover, different extracts and certain isolates from A. blitum L. were evaluated for their anthelmintic and hematologic activities. The major identified phytochemical classes through LC-MS/MS study were amino acids, flavonoid glycosides, and chlorogenic acids. The study offered useful chemotaxonomic markers for each species. Interestingly, a newcompound (19), N-(cis-p-coumaroyl)-ʟ-tryptophan, was isolated from A.blitumL |
