Abstract Desmoid tumors may affect all sites, including the extremities, trunk, and abdomen. The incidence is > 3% of soft tissue sarcomas and about 0.03% of all neoplasms The optimal treatment of Extra-abdominal desmoid tumor has still not been established, although surgery is the primary treatment option. Other treatment options include chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and radiation therapy, either alone or in combination. Increasing recognition of these recurrence rates, Spontaneous regression and disappearance in 20% - 30% and the morbidity of surgical therapy has led to the novel idea that a watchful waiting period before any intervention for desmoid tumors may be appropriate. The current study aimed to evaluate the quality of life of patients suffering from fibromatosis and treated conservatively. This prospective study was conducted on 20 patients suffering from fibromatosis and treated conservatively. SF-36 questionnaires were answered by the patients at the start of conservative treatment of extra-abdominal desmoid tumors and after 6 month of the treatment. The current study showed no statistically significant differences between de novo and recurrent desmoid tumor in quality of life SF-36 parameters, all scores were in correlation with the US standard scores. The current study also showed no statistically significant differences between de novo and recurrent patients regarding PCS and MCS scores, all patient scores were in correlation with the US standard scores. |
