Abstract

The present study was conducted to compare the effect of fibular repositioning taping (FRT) versus exercises on pain and function in patients with lateral chronic ankle instability (CAI). Subjects and Methods: Sixty Six patients suffering from lateral CAI participated in this study, their age ranged from 18 to 50 years were assigned randomly into three groups of equal number (A, B and C). group (A) received FRT, group (B) received FRT and exercise while group (C) received exercise only. Patients participated in this study were assessed for Pain by the Arabic Numeric Pain Rating Scale (ANPRS) and for Function by Arabic version of Foot and Ankle Ability Measure (AFAAM) and were evaluated before and after the treatment program. Results: Within groups, there was a significant improvement in pain and function in the three groups post-treatment compared to pre-treatment. Among groups, statistically significant varieties were found in post mean values of pain and function, with this significant increase in favor of group (B) compared to group (A) and in favor of group (C) compared to group (A), as well as in favor of group (B) compared to group (C).Conclusion: FRT may be an effective treatment in CAI, yet exercise has shown better results than FRT in decreasing pain and enhancing function.
