المستخلص Despite this huge amount of traditional and electronic media, and its wide spread, we notice that this diversity is quantitative rather than qualitative. Many previous media studies have shown That The media is still far from changing people’s attitudes about disability, enhancing the position of the disabled in society, and publicizing their rights and needs . So this study is determined in what is the media contents representation provided by print and electronic media about the disabled and how to foresee a scientific and methodological vision that can be guided to enhance the perceived reality and to achieve future aspirations. The research problem: how the print and electronic media deals with disability issues by the contents to represent the disabled categories: blind, deaf, dumb and kinesthetically disabled. The importance of the study: The great attention from the local and international community with the disabled. The study analyzes the media (paper & paperless) during 2018, which has been named “Year of the Disabled in Egypt”. The aim of the study: Analyzing the topics, events, type of disability, sources, language and main characters to determine how the media represent the disabled. Study sample: The study relied on a sample of print media namely: Al-Ahram, and electronic media namely: El-youm 7, during the year 2018. Methods and Tools: The research relied on the survey methodology, the comparative approach and the content analysis tool to monitor and analyze all contents about the disabled The Results: 1- Al-Ahram and El-Youm 7 concur about the range of issues relating to disability. 2- Their perceptions agreed that there are obstacles facing the disabled in Egypt, The contents in both expressed the state’s commitment to remove all obstacles in order to support and empower the disabled, but their perceptions differed regarding these obstacles. |
