Abstract

To determine the relation between trunk control, visual motor integration and hand strength in children with spastic diplegia.Subjects: Forty five children from both sexes, their ages ranged from 4-6 years. They were selected from the Outpatient Clinic of Faculty of Physical Therapy, Cairo University and The National Institute of Neuromotor System. Methods:Children were assessedbythe Segmental Assessment of Trunk Control (SATCO), the Peabody Developmental Motor Scale 2 (PDMS-2), and Hand Held Dynamometer to assess their trunk control, visual motor integration, and hand strength respectively.
Results: There was positive correlation (r=0.54) between right hand grip strength and total SATCo score, there was positive correlation (r=0.52) between right hand grip strength and SATCo trunk level, there was positive correlation (r=0.57) between right hand grip strength and visual motor integration, there was positive correlation (r=0.49) between left hand grip strength and total SATCo score, there was positive correlation (r=0.50) between left hand grip strength and SATCo trunk level, there was positive correlation (r=0.66) between left hand grip strength and visual motor integration, there was positive correlation (r=0.61) between visual motor integration and total SATCo score and that there was positive correlation (r=0.62) between visual motor integration and SATCo trunk level. Conclusion: There is a correlation between trunk control, visual motor integration and hand strength in children with spastic diplegia.
