Abstract Hysterectomy is the second most common major surgical procedure performed on women after cesarean section. There are various possible approaches to hysterectomy for benign disease of uterus; abdominal, vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomy. Abdominal hysterectomy may be either total or subtotal. The aim of the present study was to compare subtotal and total abdominal hysterectomy as regard urinary and sexual functions, operative time, blood loss and postoperative complications and recovery.
