Abstract

Aim of this work is to assess pragmatic domains of language in children having down syndrome to establish a better language rehabilitation program. The sample of this study consisted of 60 children, Their ages ranged between 4 to 8 years, with normal hearing, no neurological or psychological disorders. This sample was divided into two groups: group A (case group) consisted of 30 children having down syndrome with mild mental retardation and their IQ are between 50 to 65, and group B (control group). Consisted of 30normal children were included in the study to serve as a control group, all children were subjected to language evaluation, psychometric evaluation, audio logical assessment and pragmatic assessment using Arabic pragmatic test. Shows high significance difference between cases and controls in different language ages, in pragmatic domains and between total language age and total pragmatic score among cases and controls, positive correlation between total language age and pragmatic domains among cases and among controls and positive correlation between receptive language age, expressive language age with pragmatic Subsets among cases and controls
