Abstract

Aim : To evaluate the efficacy of vascularized interpositional periosteal connective tissue flap (VIP-CT) to improve the soft tissue thickness, keratinized tissue width and esthetics around immediately placed dental implants versus subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG). Materials and methods: 14 implants were inserted immediately in 12 patients (7 implants in each group) after atraumatic extraction of irrestorable teeth in the esthetic zone. Soft tissue augmentation was performed simultanously with implant placement. In the control group SCTG was performed while in test group VIP-CT was performed.zirconia crowns were fabricated at 4th month. Soft tissue parameters were measured at1st ,3rd ,6th and 9th month after the procedure. While Pink esthetic score was assessed at 6th and 9th month. Results: In SCTG group as well as VIP-CT Group, there was a statistically significant increase in mean KT(keratized tissue thickess) after 1 month. However, at the base line as well as through all follow up periods, there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in keratinized tissue thickness and pink esthetic score. Conclusions:The two techniques resulted in a significant increase in the soft tissue thickness and enhancement of the esthetics
