Abstract The present thesis aims to get a prospective overview on some geotechnical properties of soils at the Kom Osheem area. This approach is carried out by appropriate site investigation supported with some significant laboratory tests to help in classification and understanding the different soil behaviors especially the swelling ones. This study is accompanied with software mapping techniques as remote sensing and geographic information system. The former is used regionally in order to discriminate between different rock units and swelling clays from the surroundings while the later is used to build up a new database for the region. This achieved database supplies the decision makers with future guidelines from the resultant land-use map |
