Abstract Aim:This study aimed to study caries experience in a group of diabetic children and the unmet treatment needs of this group. Subjects and methods: This study was carried out in the Outpatient Diabetic Clinic at El Demerdash Hospital , Ain Shams University and the National Institute of Diabetes on 1000 children aged from 3 to 12 years old suffering from type 1 diabetes mellitus. Data were collected by means of an open ended questionnaire covering patient records of weight and glycated haemoglobin HbA1C for all the study participants then clinical examination was carried out to assess diabetic children caries experience and unmet treatment needs. Results: There was a correlation between glycated hemoglobin (HBA1c) and permenant stage (DMF) in boys. There was a correlation between glycated hemoglobin and unmet treatment need of permenant (D/DMF) and that of mixed stage (d/def) in boys. Girls showed no correlation. Conclusions : Boys and girls with diabetes mellitus had high (def) as well as (d/def) of mixed dentition stage |
