Abstract

This work was carried out to study the effect of acidifiers and lipid levels and their interactions on growth and body composition of common carp, (Cyprinus carpio). Common carp Fry were stocked into 18 cylindrical plastic tanks (with water capacity of 50 L each) at a rate of 15 fish tank-1, representing six experimental treatments. The study was designed in 2x3 factorial experiment arrangement of two lipid levels (2%;LL and 9%; HL) and three levels of fumaric acid HO2CCH=CHCO2H (0.0, 0.5 and 1.0 %). F0LL, F0HL, F0.5LL, F0.5HL, F1.0LL, F1.0HL. Fish nutrient fed diets supplemented with 1.0% fumaric acid released the highest FWG, WG and SGR being 4.78, 4.41 and 3.99, respectively. The interactions of dietary fumaric acid and lipid level revealed high significant effects on FBW, FWG and SGR, FI and phosphorus retention, being the highest for treatment F1.0HL. A maximum value of DHA 22:6 (n-3) was recorded for fish fed F1.0 HL diet (1.84 %).The optimal effect of fumaric acid was observed in the presence of high dietary lipid. Fumaric acid may be used as a tool in the presence of high dietary lipid to improve the fatty acid profile of common carp, especially DHA
