Abstract

Water distribution in Egypt manifests inefficiency and lack of a fair distribution pattern, which clearly reflected extravagant water usage as a major issue at the agricultural sector in general and at the canals beginnings, canals mid points in particular. Farmers at the canals ends always suffer from the lack of water, causing large areas of agricultural lands being fallowed especially during the summer season. As well as many unceasing disputes and quarrels among farmers and subsequently low economic production efficiency. Based on the above conceptual fact, the study is targeted to identify the economic implications of the establishment and formation of water users associations in Egypt and their role in rationalizing the use of water and water losses reduction. Water users associations are expected also to play an integral role to efficiently handle the transfer, delivery and distribution of water adequately. The assessment of water users{u2019} associations{u2019} role in Egypt, and their impact on the efficiency and equity of the water distribution is executed via several methods and analytical techniques. The example of such methods is the SWOT analysis, time series analysis and estimating water losses and its evolution taking into consideration other influential criterion, as well as by estimating the efficiency of water delivery and transportation
