Abstract

Neonatal sepsis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in Egypt. The delay in diagnosis and initiating therapy are the main reasons for high mortality. Early diagnosis and effective treatment are the best way to reduce morbidity and mortality. Therefore, a lot of studies are done to discover new biomarker to be more sensitive to infection and to reach the diagnosis as early as possible to decrease mortality and morbidity.
This study was a cross sectional analytical study – comparative study conducted in the NICU in SCUH. The studied population was 70 neonates divided into two groups study group( included 35 neonates diagnosed with LOS and control group (included 35 healthy neonates) Both groups were fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria.
