Abstract Dermanyssus gallinae, the cause of red mite infestation in poultry, continues to cause economic losses in poultry industry, particularly in those parts of the world where such industries occupy important part of national income. Failure of the conventional control methods to eradicate D. gallinae necessitates the development of effective control strategies. In the present study the antigen profile of D. gallinae adult male and female parasite has been determined using SDS-PAGE. Eleven protein bands having a molecular weight range of 19 to 245 kDa were identified in SDS-PAGE preparation stained with silver stain and 9 protein bands having a molecular weight range of 25 to 245 kDa were identified using the coomassie blue stain. Blotting serum from chicken heavily infested with D. gallinae against D. gallinae fractionated antigens using western blotting technique revealed the identification of three reactive immunogenic bands in the range of 10 to 63 kDa |
